XProxy Network Settings: Static IP, PPPoE, TTL & DNS
Set the network of your XProxy box in General Settings → System Setting and General Settings → DNS Setting: a static IP, a WAN or PPPoE connection, a TTL preset to bypass hotspot limits, the time zone and the DNS servers.
You need: any plan for the static IP, the time zone and DNS. The TTL presets need the Basic plan or higher. PPPoE needs the Premium plan or higher (Pricing).
In short
A static IP set here lives in the box. A reservation in your router does the same job from the other side. Pick one, see the difference.
A TTL preset helps against carrier hotspot limits. Modem DNS keeps the DNS of each proxy on its own carrier.
A static IP reboots the box. A time zone restarts the XProxy app. DNS reloads all proxies. TTL applies at once.
How do I set it up?
Step 1 of 2
Open General Settings → System Setting and click the Network tab. In Static IP Configuration, type the IP Address 1 you want for the box.
The Netmask 2 and the Gateway 3 fill in by themselves: 255.255.255.0 and the same address ending in .1. Change them if your router is different.
Static IP in the box or in the router?
Both keep the box on the same address. They are two different places to do it.
| Static IP in the router | Static IP in the box (this page) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Your router, in the list of connected devices. | The panel: System Setting → Network → Static IP Configuration. |
| What it does | The router always gives the box the same address. | The box asks for no address and uses the one you typed. |
| Reboot | No change on the box. | The box reboots when you save. |
| Steps | Static IP for Server | The Static IP guide above. |
The gateway is the address of your router. A wrong address makes the dashboard unreachable. Then see Access the dashboard.
Static IP: what do the errors mean?
| You see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Static IP invalid. Please correct and try again! | Type a full address such as 192.168.1.50. |
| Gateway IP invalid. Please correct and try again! | Type the address of your router as the gateway. |
| Static IP is same with Gateway IP. Please change to another! | The box needs its own address, not the router's. |
| … does not same subnet … | The address and the gateway must be in the same /24 network, for example both start with 192.168.1. |
What are WAN setting and PPPoE?
WAN setting lets the box dial your internet provider itself. Choose PPPOE and type the username and password of the line. The card says Public proxy directly to the internet.
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Enable WAN | The switch for the whole feature. The box dials again by itself at start while it is on. |
| Interfaces | The network ports the box has. Pick the one connected to the provider. |
| Connection Methods | PPPoE is the method this guide covers. |
| UserName, Password | The PPPoE login from your provider. |
| VLAN | Optional. If you type a number, the box makes a VLAN on that port and dials on it. |
| MTU, MAC | Optional. Empty means not set. |
What is Proxy through WAN?
This is a different feature, in Proxy Management → Proxy Settings → Proxy through WAN. It serves devices on your network as a forward proxy on the address of the box: HTTP and SOCKS5 share one port (4000 by default). Its traffic leaves through the normal internet connection of the box, not through the modems. It needs the Basic plan or higher, and applies when you save. You can add VLESS (Premium or higher) and Shadowsocks listeners next to it. See Proxy Settings.
What is TTL, and which preset should I pick?
Mobile carriers can limit or block data that comes from a hotspot. The TTL setting changes the TTL of every packet that leaves through a modem and clamps the TCP MSS, so the traffic looks like it comes from the device you pick. It is off by default and applies at once.
| Preset | Use it for |
|---|---|
| 128 — Windows PC | Recommended for hotspot bypass. |
| 65 — Smartphone via NAT dongle | A dongle that does NAT, with traffic that should look like a smartphone. |
| 129 — Windows via NAT dongle | A dongle that does NAT, with traffic that should look like Windows. |
| 64 — Standard Linux / direct IP | Plain Linux, a direct connection. |
| Custom | Any number from 1 to 255. |
TTL is the simple layer. For a full match with your browser profile, use TCP OS Spoofing.
Which time zone should I set?
The one where you run the box. The panel lists the system zones, for example America/New_York. Saving restarts the XProxy app.
DNS for the box or for the proxies?
| Card | Applies to | Default |
|---|---|---|
| DNS for Operating System | The Linux system of the box (/etc/resolv.conf). Not your proxies. | 1.1.1.1 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 |
| DNS for Proxies | The traffic of your proxies. | Force DNS from the SIM, modem or dongle: on |
| Force modem DNS for VPN service too | The VPN service, when the modem DNS switch is on. | Off |
Separate several servers with a space. Turn the modem DNS switch off only if you need one fixed resolver for every proxy.
FAQ
How do I set a static IP on my XProxy box?
Open General Settings → System Setting → Network, type the IP Address in Static IP Configuration and click Save. The netmask and gateway fill in by themselves. The box reboots, so wait a minute and open the new address.
What is the best TTL for a mobile proxy hotspot bypass?
The panel recommends 128 — Windows PC for hotspot bypass. Use 65 for a smartphone behind a NAT dongle, or 64 for plain Linux. Start with 128 and change it only if your carrier still limits the data.
How do I use PPPoE on XProxy?
Open System Setting → Network → WAN setting, switch Enable WAN on, pick the interface, choose PPPOE, type the username and password and click Connect. It needs the Premium plan or higher.
Should my proxies use the modem DNS?
Keep it on unless you need a fixed resolver. Each proxy then asks the DNS of its own SIM, and the panel says this avoids DNS leaks. If you switch it off, type your own servers.
Do I still need a router reservation if I set a static IP in the box?
No. Use one or the other. If you set the address in the box, pick one your router will not give to another device.
What next?
Static IP from the router side, TCP OS spoofing, or the settings for each dongle.
