APN, TTL, IMEI & Firmware Settings for 4G Dongles
Set the APN and TTL of a 4G modem, change its label, MAC address or IMEI, reboot it, update its firmware and export a list of your dongles. All from Device Settings → Dongle Devices.
You need: a dongle plugged in (how to install dongles). A few actions need the Basic plan (see which).
In short
APN, TTL, label, MAC and IMEI are right there.
Tick dongles, then use Operations.
Update XH20, XH22 and XM16.
Where do I find the settings of my dongles?
In the left menu, open Device Settings → Dongle Devices. Each row is one dongle. The toolbar works on the rows you tick.
- 1 Operations: change IMEI, MAC address or APN, turn Wi-Fi on or off, export a CSV.
- 2 Upgrade firmware.
- 3 Device: name, serial number, IMEI, MAC address and the dongle's own TTL, if you set one.
- 4 Label: click the pencil to change it.
- 5 APN: click the pencil to change it.
- 6 Note: type anything you want to remember. It saves when you leave the box.
- 7 Actions: Reboot, Setting (MTU, TTL, SIM slot) and Info (reads the phone number).
How do I change a dongle setting?
Step 1 of 2
One dongle: click the pencil 2 in its APN column.
Several dongles: tick them, click Operations and choose Change APN 1. The same APN goes to all of them.
What TTL should I use?
TTL is a number carried by every packet. Some carriers use it to spot hotspot or tethering traffic. Setting it on the dongle also turns on TCP MSS clamping for that dongle, to bypass those limits. You can set it for one dongle, or for all dongles in General Settings → System Setting.
| Preset | Name in the panel | Note |
|---|---|---|
0 | Inherit System Default | Use the TTL from General Settings → System Setting. |
128 | Windows PC | Recommended for hotspot bypass. |
65 | Smartphone via NAT Dongle | |
129 | Windows via NAT Dongle | |
64 | Standard Linux / Direct IP | |
Custom | Your own number | 1 to 255. |
Want the TTL of the whole box, or an OS fingerprint for the traffic? See system and network settings and TCP OS spoofing.
What does each action do to the dongle?
| Action | Dongles | After you click |
|---|---|---|
| Change APN | XH20, XH22 and QMI modems | The panel says how many dongles changed and how many failed. |
| TTL, MTU, SIM slot | Per dongle, in Setting | Saved at once. A SIM slot change says Dongle not supported! when the dongle has no second slot. |
| Label | One dongle at a time | The dongle reboots by itself. |
| MAC address | XH20 and XH22 | The dongle reboots by itself. Wait up to 15 seconds. |
| IMEI | XH20, XH22, XM16, XM62 | The dongles reboot. |
| Wi-Fi on or off | XH20 and XH22 | Operations → Enable WI-FI or Disable WI-FI, after a confirm question. |
| Reboot | Any dongle | The panel says Sent command reboot successfully! |
| Info | Any dongle | Read Info shows the phone number of the SIM. |
A dongle stuck and a reboot does not help? See Watchdog and auto-recovery.

| Feature | Plan |
|---|---|
| Change IMEI (single and bulk) | Free and up |

Label, MAC, Wi-Fi, firmware and CSV export have no plan limit in the panel. Compare plans on the pricing page.
FAQ
How do I change the APN of my USB modem?
Click the pencil in the APN column of the dongle (or tick dongles and use Operations → Change APN). Pick MANUAL, type the APN of your carrier and click Change. It works for XH20, XH22 and QMI modems. You can also set it in the dongle's own panel: Open the Dongle Panel.
Which TTL value is best?
The panel recommends 128 (Windows PC) for bypassing hotspot blocks. Use 64 for a plain Linux connection. 65 (smartphone) and 129 (Windows) are for devices behind a NAT dongle. You can also type your own value.
Why is Change IMEI missing in my menu?
The item only shows when your license allows it.
How long does an XM16 firmware flash take?
About 5 to 10 minutes for each modem, which is offline meanwhile. You can flash 1 to 4 modems at the same time. Do not unplug a modem or reboot the box until it finishes.
Why does the firmware upload say the file name is wrong?
The names must look like SWI9X30C_02.33.03.00.cwe and SWI9X30C_02.33.03.00_GENERIC_002.072_000.nvu, both for the same version. XProxy accepts the families SWI9X30C and SWI9X50C.
What next?
Open the dongle's own panel, read its SMS, or let XProxy recover stuck dongles.
