How do I read and send SMS from a USB modem?
Step 1 of 3
Click 1 SMS/USSD Utilities in the left menu. The list on the left shows every dongle with its position, label, Status (UP or DOWN) and provider.
Click the row of a dongle 2. Its SMS Control tab shows the inbox 3: Sender, Content and Time. Click Refresh to read it again.
What is on the SMS/USSD page?
The left list shows your dongles. The right side has five tabs:

Only dongles that are UP can be used. A DOWN dongle (red row) cannot be ticked.
How does mass SMS share the work between SIMs?

| Round-robin (even) | One message, from one dongle. The numbers are shared evenly. |
| Random dongle | One message, from one randomly picked dongle. |
| Every selected SIM sends to every number | One copy from every ticked dongle. With 3 dongles, a number gets 3 copies. |
Limits: up to 5 messages per number, up to 1600 characters per message. The messages go out in order, with your delay in between.
How does SMS to email work?
XProxy checks the inbox of each chosen dongle every 60 seconds by default (you can pick 10 to 3600 seconds). Each new SMS becomes one email.
- Subject: the position and the sender of the SMS.
- Body: the position, the proxy port, the modem and its IMEI, the sender, the time and the text.
- No double emails. A message counts as sent only after your mail server accepts it. If the server is down, XProxy tries again on the next check.
- Sender address: optional. It defaults to your username. It is needed when your username is not an email address.
FAQ
How do I read SMS from a USB modem?
Open SMS/USSD Utilities, click the dongle and read the SMS Control inbox. To read many SIMs together, use the All inboxes tab.
How do I check my SIM balance?
Use the USSD Control tab. Type the balance code of your carrier and click Send. The answer appears in the box. The panel does not know your carrier's codes, so ask your carrier for the right one.
Why can I not tick a dongle?
Only online dongles can be ticked. A row that shows DOWN has no connection. Fix it first, then press Refresh.
Can I send emoji or a long SMS?
On XM16 modems, yes. Emoji and long texts are sent correctly (a long text goes out in several parts). A mass SMS message can have up to 1600 characters.
Will old messages be emailed too?
No. When you turn forwarding on, the messages already on the SIMs are skipped. Only SMS that arrive after that are sent.
