Remote Support

Remote Support lets an XProxy technician connect to your server using a short support code (PIN) — no port forwarding, no TeamViewer, no IP address needed. You start a session, share the code, and close it when done.

Get me connected — pick your path

Answer the questions below and we show you only the steps that apply to you.

Can you open your XProxy dashboard in a browser?

Install the tool (one line)

The tool is called xtool. Pick your operating system, copy the line, paste it into a terminal, done.

Windows
irm https://x-proxy.io/xtool.ps1 | iex

Open PowerShell (Win key → type "powershell" → Enter), paste this line, press Enter.

Share from the dashboard

Open your XProxy dashboard → System → Remote Support → click Start Remote Support → confirm → a 5-digit PIN like 48213 appears with a Copy to give to supporter button. Paste it to us in chat.

Start Remote Support confirmation dialog
Confirm dialog — click Start.

Share from a terminal instead

On the XProxy box itself: xtool sp. From another computer on the same network: xtool sp (scans and lists servers) or xtool sp 192.168.x.x (direct IP — works for any port too: xtool sp 192.168.x.x:3389).

While we work

Keep the session open. You can watch everything the technician does — it is a normal terminal. The session stays alive until you close it.

End the session

When the technician is done, any of these closes it instantly:

  • Click the red Stop Support Session button on the dashboard (same page you started it), or
  • Press Ctrl + C in the terminal window, or
  • Run xtool sp stop in another terminal.

Sessions also expire automatically after 3 hours. Once stopped, the code is dead — nobody can reconnect with it.

Optional — remote desktop (RustDesk)

If the technician needs to see your screen instead of a terminal, they may ask you to start a RustDesk session. One command installs RustDesk (if missing) and prints your ID:

Terminal
xtool rd

To set a fixed password so reconnects do not need a new code: xtool rd <password>.

Send the RustDesk ID shown to the technician. RustDesk connects peer-to-peer/relay — no firewall changes needed on your side.

Is it safe?

  • Only the XProxy dev team can use the code. PINs are created, resolved, and revoked by our support relay — they are not guessable ports on your machine, and only authenticated staff sessions on s.xproxy.io can dial through.
  • You start it. Nobody can connect until you run the command and hand over the code.
  • The code dies with the session. Stop the session → code stops working immediately.
  • No incoming connections. Your server makes one outgoing connection to XProxy's relay — works behind any router, CGNAT, or firewall that allows normal web browsing.
  • Nothing is installed on your computer permanently. xtool is one small program you can delete anytime.

Troubleshooting

ProblemFix
"Code not found or expired"The session was stopped or expired. Run xtool sp again for a fresh code.
"Failed to establish tunnel"Your network blocks outbound port 8443. Try another network or contact us.
Windows shows "Windows protected your PC"Click More info → Run anyway. The tool is unsigned but safe — or install via the PowerShell line above which avoids the warning.
"Access is denied" / permission error on WindowsThe installer writes only to %LOCALAPPDATA% — no admin needed. If it still fails, antivirus is blocking the download; allow it or contact us.
"Permission denied" installing on Mac/LinuxThe installer tries /usr/local/bin first, then falls back to ~/.local/bin — no sudo needed for the fallback. Run the plain command again; use sudo only if your admin wants a system-wide install.
Corporate PC blocks installs entirelyNo install needed — the technician can start a session from the XProxy dashboard (System → Remote Support) directly on the XProxy box.
No servers found by xtool spPass the server's IP directly: xtool sp 192.168.x.x.

For technicians

Connect with a PIN
xtool sp <pin> # interactive shell
xtool sp <pin> -e "cmd" # run one command
xtool sp <pin> -D 1080 # SOCKS5 proxy via the box
ssh -p <pin> [email protected] # zero-install fallback

Full command reference: xtool sp -h and dashboard access guide.
