Backup & Restore XProxy Settings (New Box Too)

Download all your XProxy settings as one .zip file, and restore it on the same box or on a new one. It is two buttons in General Settings → Backup/Restore.

You need: access to your XProxy panel. Backup and restore are free: the pricing page lists them in the Free plan.

In short

One file

A .zip with your settings and rules. Logs are left out.

Overwrites the box

A restore replaces the current settings, then XProxy restarts.

New hardware

Use the same file to move to another box.

How do I back up and restore XProxy?

What do you want to do?

Step 1 of 2

Open Backup/Restore and click Download Backup

In the left menu, open General Settings → Backup/Restore 1. Under System Backup, click Download Backup 2.

The page says the file holds all your settings, rules and configurations. It is made for a failed device or a move to new hardware.

What is in an XProxy backup?

The backup is a copy of the XProxy folder on the box, /opt/xproxy, without the log files.

SavedNot saved
Your settings, rules and configuration
The XProxy database
Counters and service settings
Firmware packages you uploaded for XM16
Log files (the backup leaves them out, and a restore removes the logs of the box)
The operating system itself, for example the Linux users and passwords of the box

The file name has your license key and the date: xproxy_<license key>_YYYY.MM.DD.HH.mm.zip.

FAQ

What does Download Backup save?

All your XProxy settings, rules and configurations, the database and the counters, as one .zip. Log files are not in it.

Does a restore delete my current settings?

Yes. The settings in the file replace the current ones, and XProxy restarts. Make a new backup first if you want to keep today's settings.

Can I restore a backup on a new box?

Yes. The panel names this use: "migration to new hardware". Install XProxy on the new box, then use Upload & Restore. After that, check your dongles in Proxy Management and your license in System Information.

Why do I see "Backup file error or corrupt"?

The .zip does not hold what XProxy needs, so nothing was changed. Use the file exactly as Download Backup gave it to you. Do not unzip and zip it again.

How often should I back up?

Make one before you change many settings, restore another backup, or update XProxy. It takes a few seconds.
