USB modem proxies

Run USB 4G/5G dongles as rotating mobile proxies

Put a SIM in each USB modem, plug the modems into a powered hub and let XProxy turn every one into its own HTTP and SOCKS5 proxy port with IP rotation. Dongles are built to run 24/7 without batteries, so they suit always-on farms.

Modems we support and sell

Pre-configured for XProxy; prices come live from the shop.

XH22 (4G LTE CAT4)

150 Mbps down, global frequency bands, hardware IMEI change and about 3 seconds per IP rotation. The entry-level modem for most farms. From $38.00

XM16 (LTE Advanced CAT12)

Up to 600 Mbps with 3C/4C carrier aggregation and external antennas, for crowded towers and weak coverage. From $60.00

From box to working proxy ports

The condensed version of the dongle guide.

  1. Insert the SIM

Use a SIM with an active data plan and the PIN lock disabled. Each dongle holds exactly one SIM.

  2. Plug the dongles into a powered hub

Use a hub with its own 12V adapter and leave a free port between dongles when you can. Do not run production dongles straight off the server.

  3. Wait for the panel to detect them

New dongles appear in the dashboard within 10 to 30 seconds and each one gets an HTTP and a SOCKS5 port automatically.

  4. Test and set rotation

Run curl -x socks5h://USER:PASS@SERVER_IP:PORT https://api.ipify.org from another machine; you should see a mobile carrier IP. Then set rotation per port: timer, on-request URL or API.

Things that save you time

Give every dongle a unique label

A label is a number from 11 to 254 that matches the third octet of the dongle's gateway IP. Dongles from the XProxy shop come pre-configured; for Huawei and ZTE the panel can set it for you.

Size the server for the farm

An XProxy Box handles up to 40 modems, a Raspberry Pi 4 up to 15, and larger farms need an Ubuntu PC with PCIe USB controller cards.

USB modem proxy questions

Which USB modems work with XProxy?

XProxy supports many USB dongles on the market. The documentation names the XProxy XH22, the Huawei E3372 and other HiLink dongles, and the shop also sells the XM16 (LTE Advanced) and XM55 (5G) dongles. If a modem is not recognized, support helps you install the drivers for free.

How many modems can one server and hub handle?

The XProxy Box handles up to 40 modems and a Raspberry Pi 4 up to 15. Beyond 40 modems use a dedicated Ubuntu PC with extra PCIe USB controller cards. For hubs, the industrial 20-port model is used for up to 15 modems and the 32-port model with dual power adapters for more.

Why do I need a powered USB hub?

Modems draw more current than a server USB port provides. Never power four or more dongles from a bus-powered hub: use a hub with its own 12V adapter and leave a free port between dongles to reduce radio interference.

Does it work with 5G?

Yes. The XM55 is a 5G Sub-6 USB dongle and the XCPE-25 is a 5G modem that connects by Ethernet instead of USB. Compare them on the modem comparison page.

Plug in your first modems

Run up to 5 modems for free, then add more as the farm grows.
